Junior Network Engineer (CCNA / ACMA / CMNA)

We currently have a vacancy for an all round network and communications engineer. We specialise in the installation and setup of Wireless LAN (WiFi) on a commercial level, so this is a golden opportunity for the right engineer to try out their skills in a new area.

To work with us, you will have a broad range of technical knowledge and practical skills:

  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent written English
  • Logical approach and ability to produce excellent network diagrams
  • Fast learner, also willing to learn and study in your own time to further your career
  • Either current CCNA or close to achieving your CCNA

Practical skills:

  • Be physically fit, can walk around sites (including buildings sites) and can install APs (low level ladder work)
  • Willingness to travel (must have car and current licence)
  • Physically fit to be able to undertake site work

From a technical perspective, you will have a passion for engineering and be keen to learn. Work will involve a mix of onsite work and office based design and at times will be mundane and at times highly challenging. The quicker you can learn, the quicker you will be moved on to more challenging work.

We work hard and constantly challenge ourselves to improve - the role will only suit someone who is trying to reach the best of their potential.

We are looking for an engineer that can work on their own (as required), undertaking tasks and can think on their feet, with a highly logical approach. We need people that have studied for their exams, so need more than a paper certified engineer. You don't currently have to have wireless LAN experience as we can train, although this is a bonus. What we really need is a capable engineer who can learn and is committed to the technology. One of our key requirements is accuracy - you must be able to produce accurate, consistent, grammatically correct and well thought out documents.

What's in it for you?

  • Industry competitive salary
  • Small company, where you have the chance to make a real difference
  • Collaborative, friendly team culture
  • Support for training and learning
  • Working with the best team in the industry - learn from our experts
  • Great office location
  • Challenging projects and access to new technology
  • Work in an environment encouraging you to be the best you can be
  • Mobile phone / company supplied laptop

Our preference if for a local Australian based person (you must have the right to work and live in Australia).

The interview process will include engineering assessments.

To apply please email us at pmo@iptel.com.au with the following:

  • Your CV
  • Cover letter

If you have any relevant skills in the WiFi industry, please list these and provide some details in your cover letter.

Work will primarily be office based with an element of travel to customer sites around Australia. Working for IPTel

At IPTel we undertake cutting edge work, largely in the wireless LAN space. We work across many hospitals, which offers a fascinating insight into the way in which our technology assist clinicians in their daily lives. We also work across other verticals, so you might find yourself in an industrial, retail or warehouse environment.

A typical day with the company will see you working on a project for a client. This typically involves working through the initial predictive surveys for clients and ensuring the design will meet the clients requirements. You will work on written detailed designs and complex network diagrams, so excellent written English, attention to detail and ability to logically construct documents and diagrams is an absolute must.

Your documentation will be peer reviewed, so expect some feedback! Once you're in the groove with the company you'll find your level of documentation and diagrams has improved to meet our normal levels.

Thinking through the design, you'll write some change controls, for review and approval by the client. On new work, we lab up scenarios as this stage to test how the configuration will work.

Attending site is where the main action takes place. Commissioning is an important part of what we do and we have a well defined methodology for this. Follow the instructions and the change control and commission the site - there's always the potential for issues of course, so you might need to fault find any problems, so working under what at times can be considerable pressure is important. Making changes in a clinical environment takes special care and attention to detail. Make mistakes and you won't last too long with us.

After the commissioning, is the post install survey stage - walk rounds of the site and measure the coverage - you'll use your engineering knowledge and experience to confirm the coverage meets the specification, or what actions to take to help it do so.

The works complete with reports on coverage, and collating all the documentation - deployed equipment details, maps and test sets.

We also work on new technologies quite frequently, so might get you to look over a new product of technology and train on this for us. We can then use this to help drive sales in new technologies and expand what we do.

Working with large warehouses, industrial or building sites, you'll have access to new and unique environments where we undertake work. You'll need to pay particular attention to safety in these environments, so need to demonstrate your safety minded attitude. The scopes sometimes can involve lots of complex parts and information - can you take lots of moving parts on a project and understand the overall picture? You'll need that to track that everything on your project is tracking according to plan. You'll have help from a project manager of course to guide you, but like most engineers you'd like to work semi-autonomously, so tracking what you need on the project will help.

The environment is quick paced, with focus on delivery of customer requirements - so yes, you'll need some good customer facing skills too!
